About

Follow our adventures as we take on way more than we should; restoring an old farmhouse and slowly converting 77 acres to its native condition.

Old Farmhouse Ranch” was decided on as name of blog when we discovered that Perdenales Electric Co-op used “OldFarmHouse” as their address for the property as opposed to the actual street address – we thought this was pretty neat.

We are now in our fourth year and changes are visible. We are still battling weeds but every year now without fail we have had different and more and more wild flowers popping up. Initially the land was pretty overgrazed and insects were few. Turkey and deer were around, but now as you walk across the land you can see the ground teaming with life. No matter where you look you see insects scurrying about. Birds and mammals have increased and are visible day and night – very satisfying indeed.

Water will continue to be our challenge, but changes made to stock tank are paying dividends and we are holding more water than ever – crystal clear and cooler than surrounds due to increase in spring flow.
